![]() ![]() In August, HBO débuted “House of the Dragon,” its “Thrones” prequel, which marks its first attempt to expand the hit show into a wider universe of streaming content. Its final-hour implosion left behind a negative space-a black hole in the Zeitgeist. But, until a few months ago, I hadn’t thought about the show in years. I was one of “ Game of Thrones” ’s more committed fans, watching episodes religiously on Sunday nights and then consuming recap articles and podcasts to digest what I’d seen. ![]() Martin hadn’t (and still hasn’t) finished writing, the final season was so chaotic, ill-paced, and inconsistent that any good will or incipient nostalgia for the series was destroyed. In retrospect, the series as a whole fared similarly. ![]() The seat that the show’s characters have spent eight seasons fighting over is gone in an instant. In the series finale of “ Game of Thrones,” released in 2019, an enormous dragon incinerates the Iron Throne with a torrent of fiery breath. ![]()
